Zombie Survivor Guide: Wave Timeline, Bosses, and Best Evolutions
August 22, 2026 · Playgami
Zombie Survivor is a free browser zombie FPS built on one clock: survive 15 minutes of scripted waves, then kill the final boss. Every number below — wave times, boss order, evolution pairings, chest rewards, coin math — is taken straight from the game, so you can plan a run instead of guessing.
How a run works
The timer counts down from 15:00 while 16 named waves arrive on a fixed schedule, up to 140 zombies on screen at once. Kills drop XP gems; each level-up offers three cards from a pool of 9 active skills and 7 passives. You can hold 5 actives and 5 passives per run. When the clock hits zero, The Abomination spawns and the run goes into overtime — kill it and you win. One catch: zombie health rises 8% for every level you gain, so a build that levels fast but hits soft will drown in the late waves.
The full wave timeline
| Time | Wave | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | Shamblers | Slow walkers — build your first levels safely. |
| 0:50 | Runners | Fast zombies join; keep moving. |
| 1:35 | Spitters | Ranged acid — it poisons for 5 seconds, so strafe. |
| 2:30 | The Butcher (boss) | First boss. Drops a golden chest. |
| 3:30 | Blood Pack | Brutes arrive in a pack. |
| 5:00 | Zombie King (boss) | Drops a chest and bigger coin rewards. |
| 5:25 | Tanks | Heavy zombies that soak damage. |
| 6:15 | Swarm Rising | Density ramps toward the 140-zombie cap. |
| 7:30 | The Ravager (boss) | Drops a chest. |
| 8:30 | Toxic Tide | Spitter-heavy pressure. |
| 10:00 | The Overlord (boss) | Drops a chest. |
| 10:25 | Iron Horde | Tank-heavy push right after the boss. |
| 11:20 | Frenzy | Fast waves stack up. |
| 12:30 | The Colossus (boss) | Comes with four tank escorts. Drops a chest. |
| 13:30 | Last Stand | Final buildup — save your actives. |
| 15:00 | The Abomination (final boss) | Overtime: kill it to win. No chest. |
Five zombie types make up the horde — walkers, fast runners, acid spitters, brutes, and tanks. Headshots score 150 instead of 100 and knock zombies back further, so aim high when a lane gets tight.
All nine evolutions
Raise an active skill to level 2 or higher while owning its paired passive, and the golden evolution card is guaranteed first on your next level-up. That guarantee is the whole meta: pick your pairs early and the game hands you the gold.
| Active | + Passive | = Evolution | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| AK-47 | Run Speed | Golden AK-47 | +45% fire rate, double bullets, 200-round mag |
| MG Turret | Ammo Cap | Gatling Turret | 2x fire rate |
| Auto Grenade | Damage Up | Cluster Bomb | Splits into 4 bomblets |
| Stealth Cloak | Armor Up | Phantom Camo | 25-second cloak, +25% speed while hidden |
| Heal Beacon | Regen | Sanctuary | 2x healing, +50% radius |
| Decoy Dummy | Regen | Boom Dummy | Explodes on expiry: 220 damage, 5 m |
| Flame Turret | Barricade | Firestorm | Drops 2 turrets, +40% range |
| Rocket Drone | Damage Up | Twin Prism | +50% damage, +43% fire rate |
| Vampire Rounds | Fast Hands | Crimson Fangs | 2x lifesteal, overflow heals armor |
The seven passives: Run Speed (+8% move speed), Fast Hands (−20% reload), Ammo Cap (+50% reserve), Regen (+1 HP/s), Armor Up (+25 max armor), Barricade (60-second wall), and Damage Up (+15% all damage). When there is nothing left to learn, a Field Supply card refills HP, armor, and ammo instead.
A build order that holds to 15:00
- Level the AK-47 first — it climbs to level 5 (30 → 150 magazine, ×2.5 damage, ×2.2 fire rate) and evolves with Run Speed into the Golden AK-47.
- Add one deployable damage source early (MG Turret or Rocket Drone) so something shoots while you collect gems.
- Take Damage Up over marginal utility: the horde's +8%-per-level health curve punishes soft builds after 10:00.
- Save Stealth Cloak for The Colossus at 12:30 — four tank escorts at once is the run's hardest moment.
- Chests from the five chest-dropping bosses can roll an instant level-up or +25% damage — grab them the moment they drop.
Coins and the operator
Every run pays one coin per three kills, plus ten for a clear, plus boss rewards of 3, 3, 6, 8, 12 and 20 coins. Spend them on Operator Upgrade — +1% damage and +1 armor per level, up to level 20, starting at 10 coins and rising 5 per level. Wardrobe colors are free, and nothing costs real money. Progress saves in your browser on the device you play on.
FAQ
What is the best first evolution in Zombie Survivor?
The Golden AK-47 is the most reliable opener: the AK-47 is already in your hands every run, so you only need to level it to 2 and take Run Speed — a passive that helps every build anyway. From there, Gatling Turret (MG Turret + Ammo Cap) adds damage that fires while you kite.
Which bosses drop chests?
Five of the six: The Butcher, Zombie King, The Ravager, The Overlord, and The Colossus each drop a golden chest. Walking over it spins Chest Slots for one of five rewards: +5 coins, full HP and armor, full ammo, +25% damage for the run, or an instant level-up. The Abomination at 15:00 does not drop one — killing it simply wins the run.
Do zombies get stronger as I level up?
Yes — zombie health rises 8% for every level you gain. That is why flat Damage Up and evolutions age better than small utility passives: your kill rate has to outgrow the horde's health curve.
How do I earn coins fastest?
Coins come from pickups, from bosses (3, 3, 6, 8, 12 and 20 coins in boss order), and from the end-of-run payout: one coin per three kills plus ten for killing The Abomination. Surviving deep into high-density waves is worth more than ending early — kills are the main input.
What should I spend coins on?
Operator Upgrade is the only power purchase: each level adds +1% damage and +1 armor, up to level 20. The first level costs 10 coins and each next one costs 5 more. Wardrobe recolors are free, and there are no real-money purchases anywhere.
Is there an endless mode after The Abomination?
Not currently — the run ends in victory the moment The Abomination dies, and your report shows kills, wave, headshots, level, and accuracy. If you want a longer fight, level slower: the horde scales with your level, not with the clock alone.
