How to Play

Reversi Classic is a free online version of the timeless disc-flipping strategy game: take turns placing discs on the board, and every enemy disc you bracket in a straight line between your new disc and one you already own flips to your color. Both sides start with just two discs each, the balance swings with every capture, and whoever holds the most discs when no moves remain wins. It runs in your browser with no download and no sign-up, so it loads in seconds on any desktop or laptop browser. In single player you face a computer bot opponent — each bot carries a skill label (such as Beginner), and your own ELO rating starts at 1200 and moves with your results — while 2-player mode is a local hot-seat match for two people on one screen. Undo, a full move list, resignation, and a leaderboard round it out. There's no online multiplayer — just instant classic reversi strategy in HTML5.

Browser Controls

Place a Disc: Click or tap an empty square that brackets at least one enemy disc in a straight line between your new disc and one of your own — every bracketed disc flips to your color the moment you place.
Undo: Made a slip? Use Undo to take back your last move and try a different line — handy while you're learning to read the board.
Resign & Rematch: Use Resign to concede a lost position, then start a fresh match with Play Again from the results screen.
Move List: The move list records the whole game as it's played, so you can review exactly how a win (or loss) was built.
Settings: Toggle music, sound effects, and visual effects (particles and animations) any time from Settings.

Special Rules

Flank & Flip: You may only place on a square that traps one or more enemy discs in a straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — between your new disc and another of your own. Every trapped disc flips to your color.
Passing: If you have no square that flips at least one enemy disc, your turn passes. When neither player can move, the game is over.
Winning: When the board is full or no legal moves remain, the discs are counted — the player with more discs wins. Big mid-game leads mean little; only the final count matters.
ELO Rating: In single player your rating starts at ELO 1200 and moves with your results against the computer bots — a simple running measure of how your play is improving.

Winning Strategies

Take the Corners: A disc in the corner can never be flipped — nothing can bracket it — so it anchors every row, column, and diagonal it touches. Corners are the most valuable squares on the board; steer the game toward taking them.
Fewer Discs Early: Counter-intuitive but true: a small, compact position in the opening and midgame is usually stronger. Flipping too much too soon runs you out of good moves while handing your opponent options.
Beware the X- and C-Squares: The squares diagonally and directly beside an empty corner are poison — placing there usually gifts your opponent the corner itself. Avoid them until that corner is settled.
Win the Endgame: Reversi is decided in the last dozen moves, when flipped discs stop flipping back. Count carefully at the end — a game that looks lost can swing on the final placements.
