Browser Controls

Special Rules
- Flank & Flip: You may only place on a square that traps one or more enemy discs in a straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — between your new disc and another of your own. Every trapped disc flips to your color.
- Passing: If you have no square that flips at least one enemy disc, your turn passes. When neither player can move, the game is over.
- Winning: When the board is full or no legal moves remain, the discs are counted — the player with more discs wins. Big mid-game leads mean little; only the final count matters.
- ELO Rating: In single player your rating starts at ELO 1200 and moves with your results against the computer bots — a simple running measure of how your play is improving.
Winning Strategies
- Take the Corners: A disc in the corner can never be flipped — nothing can bracket it — so it anchors every row, column, and diagonal it touches. Corners are the most valuable squares on the board; steer the game toward taking them.
- Fewer Discs Early: Counter-intuitive but true: a small, compact position in the opening and midgame is usually stronger. Flipping too much too soon runs you out of good moves while handing your opponent options.
- Beware the X- and C-Squares: The squares diagonally and directly beside an empty corner are poison — placing there usually gifts your opponent the corner itself. Avoid them until that corner is settled.
- Win the Endgame: Reversi is decided in the last dozen moves, when flipped discs stop flipping back. Count carefully at the end — a game that looks lost can swing on the final placements.
