How to Play

2048 is a single-player sliding tile puzzle played on a 4x4 grid. Slide the tiles with your arrow keys or swipe on your screen — when two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one, doubling in value. Strategize your moves to build higher powers of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024) until you reach the legendary 2048 tile. It runs instantly in your browser, ad-free, and even works offline — no WiFi needed once the page has loaded.

Browser Controls

  • Move (Desktop): Use the arrow keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to slide all tiles in that direction.
  • Move (Mobile): Swipe up, down, left, or right anywhere on the board to slide the tiles.
  • Merge: When two tiles of the same value collide, they fuse into a single tile of double the value, climbing the powers of two.

Special Rules

  • Goal: Combine tiles until you create a tile showing 2048. You can keep playing afterward to chase higher tiles (4096, 8192...).
  • Game Over: The game ends when the grid is full and no adjacent tiles can be merged.
  • New Tiles: After every move, a new tile (usually a 2, occasionally a 4) appears in a random empty cell.
  • Play Offline: Once the page has loaded, 2048 keeps working with no internet connection — perfect for commutes or spotty WiFi. (Offline support applies to this game.)

Strategy Tips

  • Corner Strategy: Keep your highest tile pinned in one corner and build a descending chain toward it.
  • Avoid: Don't chase merges in the center — it scatters your high tiles and clogs the board.
