How to Play

2048 is a single-player sliding tile puzzle played on a 4x4 grid. Slide the tiles with your arrow keys or swipe on your screen — when two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one, doubling in value. Strategize your moves to build higher powers of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024) until you reach the legendary 2048 tile. It runs instantly in your browser, ad-free, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded. The August 2026 update turns it into a full progression game: clear daily tasks, unlock achievements, open chests, collect 72 cards across 8 themed sets, and join a team to trade cards and send energy — with the whole game playable in English or Japanese.

Browser Controls

Move (Desktop): Use the arrow keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to slide all tiles in that direction.
Move (Mobile): Swipe up, down, left, or right anywhere on the board to slide the tiles.
Merge: When two tiles of the same value collide, they fuse into a single tile of double the value, climbing the powers of two.
Undo: Hit the Undo button to take back your last move when a slide goes wrong — you get 3 free undos every day, and coins earned in game buy more.

Special Rules

Goal: Combine tiles until you create a tile showing 2048. You can keep playing afterward to chase higher tiles (4096, 8192...).
Game Over: The game ends when the grid is full and no adjacent tiles can be merged.
New Tiles: After every move, a new tile (usually a 2, occasionally a 4) appears in a random empty cell.
Play Offline: Once the page has loaded, 2048 keeps working with no internet connection — perfect for commutes or spotty WiFi. (Offline support applies to this game.)
Energy: Each run costs 1 energy and you can hold up to 5. Energy refills by itself — 1 point every 30 minutes — and teammates or the in-game store can top you up too.
Daily Tasks & Daily Chest: Four fresh tasks arrive every day. Clear all four to earn the Daily Chest on top of the individual task rewards.
Achievements: Nine tile milestones from 8 to 2048, each with three star tiers that pay out coins as you climb.
Cards & Chests: Collect 72 cards across 8 themed sets. Wood Chests hold 3 mixed rewards, Silver Chests drop 4-5 cards, and Gold Chests drop 5-8 cards with a 3-star card guaranteed — duplicate cards refund coins automatically.
Team & Card Trading: Join a team to send and receive energy, gift a duplicate card, or request the exact card you're missing — one gift and one request at a time, each on a 4-hour cooldown.

Strategy Tips

Corner Strategy: Keep your highest tile pinned in one corner and build a descending chain toward it.
Avoid: Don't chase merges in the center — it scatters your high tiles and clogs the board.

What do the different chests contain?

The Wood Chest (100 coins) holds 3 mixed rewards. The Silver Chest (200 coins) holds 4-5 cards plus coins and a bonus reward. The Gold Chest (500 coins) holds 5-8 cards plus coins and a bonus reward, with at least one 3-star card guaranteed.

How does card trading work in teams?

On your team screen you can post one duplicate card as a gift and one request for a card you're missing. A teammate accepts the gift (you earn a thank-you bonus of 30-200 coins) or fulfills your request. Each slot has a 4-hour cooldown.

Can I play 2048 in Japanese?

Yes. The whole game — menus, tasks, cards, and the store — is playable in English or Japanese. Switch any time with the EN / 日本語 toggle in the settings.
